Three years ago, Oxford Dictionaries’ word of the year was “post-truth”. Oxford defined the word as, 'relating to or denoting circumstances in which objective facts are less influential in shaping public opinion than appeals to emotion and personal belief.'" Interestingly, the popularity of the word was not because of the actual meaning of its prefix, post. At the time, the Oxford Dictionaries noted the distinction stating, “The compound word post-truth exemplifies an expansion in the meaning of the prefix post- that has become increasingly prominent in recent years. Rather than simply referring to the time after a specified situation or event – as in post-war or post-match – the prefix in post-truth has a meaning more like ‘belonging to a time in which the specified concept has become unimportant or irrelevant’”.
Does truth belong to a time in which it is unimportant or irrelevant? Certainly not! As faithful followers of Jesus Christ, who is Himself Truth, we cannot negotiate truth with a hostile culture. And yet we must respond to the great needs of our time. There must be a way to do both. The American Family Association invites you to get equipped to stand In Defense of Truth. The Marriage, Family, and Life Conference 2020 provides answers and ministry to culture-wearied adults and children (ages 4-17). MFL20 is a two-day conference packed with information and encouragement on topics such as:
Marriage & Family (Divorce, Re-marriage, Blended Families, we must glorify God)
Apologetics (How do we give a relevant defense for the hope that is in us?)
Human Sexuality (What is the connection between sexual brokenness and the decline of American culture?)
Life (Can the Church rescue the innocent and lead the charge to abolish abortion?)
Social/Cultural Engagement (Are we expected to live as witnesses for Christ? What does that look like in a post-truth, hostile culture?)
One of the best features of MFL20 is the Youth Apologetics Track for kids ages 4-17. While adults are engaged in information-packed sessions, kids and youth will participate in their own age-appropriate sessions. We believe Christian kids and youth must be equipped with apologetics and a working understanding of their Faith. To that end, we present young attendees with Biblically sound sessions that help them feel confident defending their Faith. Today’s culture throws a lot at Christian kids, we want to equip them to stand. With AFA’s Marriage, Family, and Life Conference, Family is still our middle name. We invite parents to bring their kids with them! Lunch for two days is included with registration and strategic fellowship times are worked in the schedule for parents to discuss sessions with their children.
We agree with the Apostle Paul who wrote to the Corinthians reminding them that, “we cannot do anything against the truth, but only for the truth.” (2 Cor. 13:8)
